Pumpkin Carving

After a few chilly weeks, we finally had some nice weather this weekend, and got out our carving knives to make some election-year jack-o-lanterns.

As you can see, we did a little googling, and came up with some nice ideas for our two big pumpkins, and some other creations for our little pumpkins...

Look out for Franken-dubya, and evil Palin!

New Englandy Fall

This past weekend, the sun was out and we finally got outside to enjoy the warm sun (after some chilly nights with no heat). Saturday we worked a bit on the garden, pulling up plants and picking some of the last vegetables. Unfortunately some of the veggies were planted late and haven't quite had the chance to grow too big. But we still got lots of cucumber, tomatoes, green peppers, greens, some beans, and some tiny little jalapenos.

Sunday was another beautiful day, and we drove out west a bit to Stowe to go apple picking at Sheffield Farms. With all the rain we had this summer, and the cool temperatures of the last week, the leaves have really come out in super vivid colors this year.

The apples were hard to come by on the lower branches, but with a little effort we got some tasty ones. Like this here Empire apple.... and plently of Cortlands for apple pie..

On the way home along Route 2, we stopped at the Walden Woods farm stand and bought some pumpkins.

Kendra patiently scanned the pumpkins for one that was either really perfect, or really strange...

We could only gaze in admiration at the long rows of the ridiculously expensive giant pumpkins before going back over to buy some only kinda expensive medium-sized pumpkins..
..and of course Greg took plenty of pictures of the pumpkins beautifully lit in the low-angle afternoon sun.

..carved pumpkins to come!

Kendra posts too! (It's harder than I thought.)

Since we haven't done anything interesting lately, I thought I'd give you some pics of when we went tubing in August. That was fun!

Greg spent some time chilling out in the hammock.

I spent some time reading about FBI abuses of power during the Civil Rights era. (The kid next to me is reading Harry Potter. You know he's jealous!)

We even saw a rainbow!

And some random kids we know had a jam session by the fire...

Weekend after Labor Day on the Cape

The posts aren't exactly in order here... but I thought I would post this from our recent weekend-after-Labor-Day-weekend trip to Truro, just shy of the tip of Cape Cod.

We got lucky and found a great little cottage to rent for the weekend (thanks to Craigslist). From the second floor bedroom there was an amazing panoramic view of Cape Cod bay.

On Saturday, we awoke to the ominous grey of the approaching hurricane-turned-tropical storm (Hanna?), which ended up dumping rain on central Mass, but just wind on the Cape. We still made it to the beach to swim in the big waves, and stopped by Truro Vineyards for a wine tasting.

After a windy, stormy night, we woke up Sunday morning to an intensely blue sky, and had time for one last trip to our new favorite beach, which you have to hike into over the back of some beautiful dunes.

...and it looks like that was our last beach day of the summer...

Jamaica Plain Open Studios

This past weekend was JP Open Studios, and I participated for the first time, showing my photography at our apartment. Despite the driving rain, people still made it up the hill to stop in, see the photos, eat some veggies & hummus, and drink some wine.

Greg's parents visit

My parents drove up to new england a few weeks back, and came to see us for a few days. We took a little weekend trip with them out to central and western mass. Our first trip was to see our future wedding venue, Harrington Farm, on the side of Mount Wachusett in Princeton.

Afterwards, we drove further west out Route 2 to Shelburne Falls to see the bridge of flowers, artist galleries, shops, and the glacial potholes. We stayed the night at the Johnson Homestead, a very nice, peaceful bed & breakfast located in the hills about 10 minutes outside of Shelburne Falls.

After an amazing breakfast, we headed back east towards Boston, but first had to stop and see a few dozen salt box houses in historic Deerfield.

The End, for now.
